Steve Michmerhuizen

Steve Michmerhuizen is a partner in the firm.  His legal practice focuses on two general areas:  civil litigation, and small business, family, and estate matters. 

​

As civil litigator, Steve has represented plaintiffs in obtaining verdicts, settlements, and judgments totaling over $24 million.  Steve concentrates in the areas of business litigation, personal injury, professional malpractice, real estate and construction disputes, and eminent domain.  He is also certified as a general civil mediator to resolve these types of disputes through mediation.

In his small business, family, and estate practice, Steve helps clients navigate issues that arise in everyday personal and professional contexts.  He assists people in establishing and growing their businesses.  He works with individuals and families who are facing crises in their personal lives or in their business.

Steve graduated Cum Laude from the University of Georgia School of Law.  While in law school, Steve was an Articles Editor for the School Journal of Intellectual Property Law.  He served as an academic research assistant and participated in an externship providing legal services to low income clients.  He was awarded the Custer Tuggle Award for Excellence in Family Law.  After graduating law school, Steve served as law clerk for The Honorable William T. Boyett, Chief Judge of the Superior Courts of the Conasauga Judicial Circuit before joining the firm.

Steve is a native of Michigan, where he attended Calvin College.  While in college, he earned four All-American awards in track and field and set multiple school and league records.  After graduation from college in 1999, he was employed as a teacher and social worker prior to entering law school.

​

Steve is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Conasauga Bar Association.  He has been admitted to practice before the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th District, the United States Supreme Court, and all state and local trial courts.  Steve has also served as Judge Pro Tem in the Whitfield County Probate Court.

Steve, his wife Julie, and their four children reside in Dalton and attend Grace Presbyterian Church.  Steve is board member of the Kiwanis Club of Dalton and the Northwest Georgia Community Foundation.
